Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment Systems
It is always a good idea to try some acne home treatments initially, especially if your acne is mild, but if this does not work then you may want to try other treatments. Acne can last a very long time and may persist into the 20s and in some rare cases into the 30s as well. It is always a good idea to treat the acne straight away and not leave it in the hopes that the patient will grow out of it as this can lead to scarring, pain and some embarrassment. As treatment for bad acne may be very long-term any remedies that you use are going to be used for a long time as well and it is necessary to have a look at any long-term side effects that there may be.
There are quite a lot different acne remedies that you can buy over-the-counter or be prescribed by your doctor and many people find that the best treatment is a combination of these different medications. Many of the treatments prescribed by doctors have long-term side effects and it always better to use the mildest acne treatment possible.
One of the most popular over-the-counter acne remedies is benzoyl peroxide. This treatment, although it does cause short-term side effects, such as reddening, burning, stinging, irritation to the skin and dryness does not appear to have any serious long-term side effects. Unlike antibiotic acne treatments it does not cause drug resistance and in fact it has been shown that when antibiotic treatments are combined with benzoyl peroxide the incidence of drug resistance is reduced.
There have been some concerns that benzoyl peroxides generates free radicals it could increase the incidence of skin cancer, but there have been no indications that this is true and it was concluded by a study conducted by the University of Miami that there was no increased risk of skin cancer. Today the only long-term side effect that has been found for benzoyl peroxide is a slightly increases sensitivity to sunlight. This can of course be corrected with use of a good sunblock.

If you find that natural acne cures are not sufficient for your acne or if you have very severe acne and needs more drastic treatment using a benzoyl peroxide acne treatment system may be effective. Although there may be some short-term side effects it can be used safely long term and is one of the most successful ways of dealing with bad acne.
