Making Your Workout Schedule More Fun

Trying to fit a workout schedule into your busy day is not always easy and you can get sidetracked by everything else that is going on in your life.  Workouts get pushed to the back and you start to slacken off. How can you set up a workout schedule that fits into your life?

before you think about setting up a schedule consider what type of exercise you are getting now and how much you enjoy it. If the answer is ‘not much but I know I need to do it!’ then the exercise is not much fun and you won’t stick to your schedule for very long. You need to change the type of workouts you are doing to something that will benefit you and you will stick at long term. There are many more ways to exercise than going to the gym and pounding away on a treadmill. Some people enjoy dance classes, others swimming, exercising to a DVD or running in the local park. Try a few different ways to exercise and see what works well for you. Persuade a friend to go to dancing classes with you or to accompany you running around the park.

Exercising in this way with a friend is a good way to establish a workout schedule that will keep you motivated. You can both encourage each other, when you are not so keen your friend can get you going and vise versa! Exercising is important and needs to be fitted into your schedule at least three times a week for vigorous exercising and every day for some more gentle exercising like a brisk walk or a swim. Even if you have to rearrange other commitments you owe it to yourself to make time for your workout so don’t ever feel guilty for taking this time for yourself.

Every day you can fit in some exercise by walking a little more, using stairs instead of the elevator and parking a bit farther away than you usually do. It’s surprising how these small changes can make a big difference to your health. One way to increase the distance you walk is to use a pedometer to count your steps. Find out how many steps you take on a normal day then gradually increase it over the coming weeks.

A workout schedule doesn’t have to be boring, change the type of exercise you do, one day dance to a DVD the next day go for a swim, the following day jog in the woods. You will never be bored and you will be fit and healthy.
