Inversion Therapy 101- Inversion Table vs. Inversion Chair

Inversion therapy involves hanging upside down or at an inverted angle for the purpose of relieving back, joints and spinal pain. This method diminish the influence of gravity from prolong standing, walking and sitting down for long hours. It also reduces the compression of the vertebrae and discs and allows your muscle that encloses the spine to relax.

Inversion is most commonly performed with the use of inversion table but because inversion chairs work the same way as that of the inversion table, they can now be both used in inversion therapy. The table will allow you to lie on your back in an up side down position while the chair allows you to sit down and keeps your knees locked to a sitting position while inverted. Using the table in leaning backwards in an inverted position, allows your spine to stretch relieving the pressure caused by gravity. Using the chair in keeping knees bent allows the gravity to focus on the spine at the same time stretching your vertebrae. These two are also considered back stretchers because they are both used in back stretching and offer the same effect of inversion therapy on the body.

What are the benefits of inversion table vs. inversion chairs to the body?
The primary benefit of the table is that it reduces the pressure on your joints the moment you lie at your back in an inverted angle. Using the table, you will just be like in an up side down standing position but reverses the gravity and relieves the stress on your muscles and joints. The table is specifically for the relief of joint and back pains through stretching of muscles.

The main benefit of the chair is that it is more effective in relieving back pains brought about by spine problems and injuries. The knees bent in using the chair in an inverted position makes this possible allowing the gravitational force to release because of the inversion thus relieving pressure and stretching the spine. The chair is specifically used to decompress the spinal disc. Indeed, inversion tables and chairs can be great for back pains and best for back stretching. However, it is best to consult your doctor first if you have a medical condition which would not make it practical for you to use these equipments. That instead of making you feel better, the use of any of these two pieces of  equipments will just worsen your condition.
